As the Kansas Department of Transportation studies potential improvements to the Kansas Highway 10 corridor, it wants the public’s input.
A plan to make Kansas Highway 10 safer and less congested — with options for road widening, an added express toll lane and overpasses or interchanges at Clare and Lone Elm roads — was presented to county commissioners last Thursday as part of a process that state highway officials estimate will result in a decision a year from now.
The possibility of express toll lanes on Kansas Highway 10 was first publicly floated in a presentation to the Olathe City Council last week.
[Subscription required by original content provider] As Kansas’ first-ever express toll lanes are under construction on U.S. 69 in Overland Park, the state is now considering adding more to ease congestion on another highway in Johnson County: Kansas 10.
After the state broke ground on a tolled express lane project at the eastern edge of Kansas, near Kansas City, tolls are also under consideration in the nascent stages of a corridor study located at the southwest edge of the same region.
The roughly 17.5-mile stretch of K-10 that runs through Johnson County and its surrounding traffic corridor have long been considered in need of improvement by state and local leaders.
